Want to watch Odyssey in 70MM glory? Get on a horse and ride.
Moviegoers are traveling hundreds of miles and paying premium prices to watch Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX film, just as God—or, ahem, the director—intended.
Only 25 theaters in the United States can show it that way. The closest are in Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville and Chattanooga, where the screen is attached to the aquarium.
New Orleans once had one, though watching a movie there now would require a tricked-out, time-traveling DeLorean. The Audubon Aquarium’s Entergy IMAX Theatre opened in 1995 with a nearly six-story screen and was the region’s only 70mm IMAX.
It was converted to digital in 2015, then closed and transformed into the Audubon Insectarium.
So Louisiana movie lovers have two choices: make a pilgrimage, or settle for Homer on a smaller screen.
