About RedEye
Journalism to kickstart Baton Rouge
RedEye is a digital news venture with a simple mission: make journalism useful again. Not just for headlines or clicks, but for the people of Baton Rouge who are trying—every day—to make this city work better.
Our approach is solutions-focused—we ask what has been tried, what has worked elsewhere, and what might work here. Alongside serious reporting, we’ll share the small pleasures of daily life in Baton Rouge, because joy, too, is part of the civic good.

RedEye's Founders are:
JR Ball - A sharp writer and observer of Louisiana’s civic life, JR spent nearly three decades shaping business and political coverage in Baton Rouge. As executive editor of Baton Rouge Business Report, he built a reputation for incisive commentary while overseeing the growth of the magazine and its digital extensions. He also spent four years with The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com, managing the organization’s statewide digital news initiative, as well as its Baton Rouge, state, and national political coverage.
Earlier, he worked as the top editor of Tiger Rag, then participated in several business ventures, including professional indoor soccer with the late Steve Carter.
Mukul Verma - For more than 30 years, Mukul has made complicated stories easier to understand. He started as a business writer at The Advocate, then at Baton Rouge Business Report, covering the people and forces shaping Louisiana. He was founding editor of Daily Report—one of the first digital dailies in the nation—and built it into a must-read for more than 15,000 subscribers.
Mukul later was director of communications for the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, telling stories about the nonprofit's civic efforts, including downtown redevelopment, the Bridge Center for Hope and Companion Animal Alliance’s $12 million shelter.
