Here comes the sun

Golden hour is the stretch just after sunrise and just before sunset, and it earns its name from what it does to the light. With the sun riding low, the day turns warmer, redder, more forgiving. Photographers love it.

It's also a fine reason to go outside, with coffee near dawn, something colder on the porch before the sun drops away. In Baton Rouge, golden hour is easiest to catch in the evening, when the sky turns orange and pink, and the softening light urges you to step out of time for a while.

Golden hour moves with the seasons and shifts from one place to the next. But you can track it with Sun Clock, alongside nautical dawn, civil dusk and other phases you've never heard of.
