Sit a spell

It's do-nothing weather. You got this.

"There is far too much work done in the world," the philosopher Bertrand Russell wrote in his 1932 essay "In Praise of Idleness." This weekend, RedEye would like to help correct that.

This time of year, the weather outside is just right. It invites us to get out and walk, run, clean the flower beds. But the weather has another pull, too: the urge to sit for a spell and do very little.

This weekend will be perfect for the latter. So we recommend you don't make a gumbo. Don't watch football unless LSU or Southern is playing. Do not stroll around the lakes.

Instead, grab a chair with as little effort as possible and plant it on a porch or in the yard. Get a cold beverage. Read a newspaper or a book. Work a crossword puzzle or the day's Wordle. Then don't do much else.

When it seems like it's time to get up, stay put.

We could go on writing this column, but we have sitting to do.
