Quick guide to midterm election
The political talking heads are already debating the midterm elections. RedEye skips the shouting and gives you a quick primer on the Nov. 3 ballot—and how to vote.
- Mobile election info: Want election info on the go? There's an app for that.
- Register to vote: Not registered? Need to update your registration? You can do it online through Oct. 13.
How to vote:
By mail: Request your ballot by Oct. 30 and return it by Nov. 2. The Power Coalition walks you through it.
Early: If you’d prefer to avoid the joy of voting on Election Day, early voting runs Oct. 20–27 at these locations:
- Baton Rouge City Hall, 222 St. Louis St., Room 604
- Motor Vehicle Building, 2250 Main St., Baker
- Fire Station, 11010 Coursey Blvd.
- Louisiana State Archives Building, 3851 Essen Lane
- Central Branch Library, 11260 Joor Road
What’s on the ballot?
- U.S. Senate—all Louisiana voters
- U.S. House of Representatives
- Ten constitutional amendments
- Local judges races
- Local school board elections
- Justice of the Peace elections
The Public Affairs Research Council plans to publish its amendment guide by mid-October. Keep an eye out for it here.
One of the amendments, in case an Iranian national seeks to take your property, would prohibit the expropriation of property by a foreign adversary or an agent of a foreign adversary. Select one: yes or no.
You can look up your ballot through the Louisiana Voter Portal, though the results may be confusing—and may not tell you everything you want to know.
