Proposed St. George Schools: by the numbers

13,807: That's the number of school-age children in the City of St. George, according to a 2025 ESRI Business Analyst estimate. The East Baton Rouge Parish School System estimates about 8,400 of its students live in St. George. 

The 5,400 gap suggests the city's children attend private schools, charter schools and schools outside the traditional parish system, such as online schools.

By the numbers: School-age children in St. George are:

• White: 56%
• Black: 24.5%
• Asian: 7.2%
• Multiple races: 9.1%
• Other races: 3.2%

The bottom line: St. George’s school-age population is larger and more diverse than the expected public school enrollment suggests. The question is whether a new district would simply reorganize the students already in the system or persuade some families to return. The latter is their goal.
