Leave the drone at home

Fly a drone near Tiger Stadium this season, and law enforcement won't just tell you to land it. They can jam it, hack it, seize it and come after you for a fine of up to $4,000, up to two years behind bars or both.

Why it matters: Tiger Stadium's six-figure crowds already trigger a federal no-fly zone at every home game, but this season four different agencies are joining forces to actually enforce it, and they're saying seizure and jail time are real options.

The rules: Drones are barred within 3 nautical miles and up to 3,000 feet above Tiger Stadium starting an hour before kickoff and running until an hour after the final whistle.

  • The ban covers every LSU home game this season and is enforced under both federal aviation law and Louisiana statute.
  • Violators face a fine of up to $4,000, up to two years in prison or both, plus forfeiture of the drone itself.

Eyes on the sky: The East Baton Rouge DA's office, Louisiana State Police, LSU Police and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are all coordinating on enforcement.

  • Officers can legally track, jam, hack or physically disable a drone they suspect is flying unlawfully near the stadium.

The bottom line: When tailgating... raise your glasses, not your drone.
