Light House serves childhood in a cup
The Cereal Milk Latte is more biting than expected. Cinnamon Roll Latte is more like a dessert.
Ask a room full of grown people about the cereal they loved as children, and you'll start a conversation. Everyone has a favorite. No two people agree, until, somehow, they do.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch wins in the end.
"Anything with cinnamon," said a staff member at Lighthouse Coffee, where breakfast comes in another form: the Cinnamon Roll Latte. Espresso and milk, sweetened with white chocolate and cinnamon, come close enough to the pastry they're named for.
I ordered the Cereal Milk Latte instead, against the barista's advice.
The cereal milk is Fruity Pebbles steeped in milk, then strained out. A few pebbles ride on top of the finished latte, and they earn their spot. Every sip smells like the box: bright citrus, juicy berry, a sugared hint of vanilla.
Coffee and sweet cereal milk together aren't what you'd guess. This isn't dessert in a cup. The coffee holds its edge, softened just a little by the milk.
If you want your coffee to feel like a treat, get the Cinnamon Roll Latte. If you want it to wake you up, get the Cereal Milk Latte.
Either way, drink it at Lighthouse. The place feels right. The light is warm, the customers quiet and busy. Every so often you'll glance up and spot someone you know, and you'll be glad to stop and catch up.
