Southern University’s $68 million, 86,000-square-foot STEM building, due to open this spring, will house 21 laboratories and 16 classrooms. It's part of a building boom intended to broaden academic offerings, including America’s first chemical engineering program at an HBCU. Enrollment is growing and approaching 9,000, requiring new dorms on campus. The university received $169 million in capital outlay funding this year, including $18.4 million for the College of Business and $10.3 million for the J.K. Haynes School of Nursing.
