Jenni Peters of Varsity Sports read our backyard ultra idea and did what any good runner would do—she asked her followers if they’re crazy enough.

Turns out they are. As of Sunday noon, her post had 45 reactions and 20 comments, and the verdict ran heavily toward “I’m in.” One commenter called it a dumb decision and signed up anyway. Another would run a couple of laps “and then cheer.” A third figured he’d barely finish one lap and a beer before the next horn. That’s the spirit.

Then there’s Scott Thornhill, who’s tired of driving 3-5 hours for a backyard race. His plea: “Please please make this official and make it happen.”

Fair enough. But an idea needs more than cheerleaders. It needs runners with opinions.

So where do we go from here? Highland Road Park or City-Brooks Park and the lakes? Twenty-four hours or as long as it takes? Would you run, crew or just show up for the grill? Tell us on Peters’ post or email us at news@redeyebr.com.

We’ll keep the chairs warm.
