Time feels short
About 60% of full-time working parents say they spend too little time with their children, according to a new Pew Research Center survey, and most cite work obligations as the reason.
Why it matters: For millions of families, the challenge isn’t simply earning a living or raising children—it’s finding enough time to feel fully present doing either.
Double duty: For many parents, the line between work and family life has all but disappeared.
- 70% say they handle parenting-related tasks while they’re working.
- 59% say they handle work-related matters while spending time with their children.
- 54% say balancing work and family responsibilities is difficult.
Moms carry more: Full-time working mothers are more likely than fathers to report struggling with balance, taking on a larger share of parenting responsibilities and feeling upset when work causes them to miss school events, games and other activities.
The bottom line: Workplace flexibility may make it easier to work anywhere, but for many parents it also means work follows them almost everywhere.
