Shocker: Not everyone in Baton Rouge watches LSU football. Some people read books or stream dramas on Apple TV. Others take advantage of the quieter restaurants to enjoy dinner or cocktails with a few like-minded friends.

For those in the latter camp, [Hayride Scandal](https://www.instagram.com/p/DchKTyITf5C/?ref=redeyebr.com) has you covered. Accomplished bartender Alan Walter will be mixing specialty cocktails in the back room, something he has been doing at the Corporate Boulevard lounge for several weeks.

Hayride Owner Lance Paddock tells *RedEye* the events have been popular and they are in talks to add more specialty cocktail days at the lounge.

Walter was a mixologist before mixology was cool. He made a name for himself in New Orleans, first at Iris restaurant, then at Loa Bar at the International House Hotel.

He opened The Brakes Bar for City Hospitality Group in Baton Rouge. His profile got another lift when he was named a 2025 James Beard Award semifinalist in the Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service category.

On Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m., he’ll mix juleps, drinks traditionally poured over crushed ice, with the mint julep being the best known. Don’t expect the standard fare at Hayride. Walter’s previous julep menu included drinks flavored with peach-pluot shrub, an artichoke amaro float, and a crème fraîche and Drambuie float.
