# Nightmare on Siegen Lane

Some people love a car wash. Others would rather not. You buckle in, put the car in neutral and let a whirling machine swallow you whole, with the quiet worry that it might break down and keep you there a while.

Benny's is leaning into that worry, on purpose, and for a good cause.

For two nights this week, the Benny's on Siegen Lane becomes a haunted car wash, with every dollar of its premium wash going to Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital. Caroline Rowley, the company's marketing director, says to picture something along the lines of 13th Gate, with a car wash included.

About 70 Benny's employees signed up to do the scaring. Expect jump scares inside the car wash tunnel, eerie lighting and a soundtrack piped through your own car radio, timed to the fright.

It starts before you ever reach the whirling brushes. The parking lot is a show of its own, with costumed employees stationed all around and the price of diesel projected on a wall. (OK, we made up that last one.)

The production is so big, Rowley says, that Benny's can only pull it off at one location. More than 600 vehicles are expected each night.

The company has raised more than $200,000 for the hospital over five years, and all $30 of each wash goes to the cause.

For little ones who scare easily and the grown-ups who jump at their own shadows, the first hour belongs to them. From 6 to 7 p.m., the ghouls stay put and nobody leaps out at your windshield.
