- Description: What the change means for those still using Cox services.

Cox Communications is slowly fading into the sunset as Charter Communications expects to close on its $34.5 billion buyout of Cox later this month, with Spectrum branding and pricing coming to Baton Rouge in September.

**Why it matters:** Nothing changes on the ground if you're still using Cox in a Baton Rouge where cord-cutting and specialized digital services are the trending norm. What immediately matters: your bill, the app and customer service are changing, and soon you'll have additional bundle options.

**No overlap, no outage:** Charter and Cox don't compete head-to-head here, so this isn't a rival muscling in—it's a rebrand of the lines already running to your house.

- Same infrastructure, same technicians, same trucks, just a new corporate parent.
- No digging, no reinstall, no service gap tied to the switch itself.

**Your bill, your call:** You won't get forced onto a new plan the day the name changes.

- Keep your current Cox rate if you'd rather not deal with it.
- Or opt into a standard Spectrum bundle, which throws in Disney+, Hulu, ESPN and Paramount+ at no extra charge.

**Phone and mobile:** Cox's other products get new names too, with an incentive attached.

- Digital landline service becomes Spectrum Voice; your number stays yours.
- Cox Mobile lines migrate to Spectrum Mobile, and Charter is offering a free year of service to subscribers who make the jump.

**Smooth sailing:** While a heated debate over the merger is playing out in California, the Louisiana Public Service Commission gave it uncontested approval 12 months ago.

**The bottom line:** The wires don't move and the technicians don't change, but by September, expect a new name, a new app and a few decisions you might want to consider before autopay kicks in on the new brand.
