**Why it matters:** Two new exhibitions open at LASM Saturday—including the Blue Dog's Baton Rouge debut—and the Perseid Meteor Shower peaks that same night. Friday is impossibly packed with a local film premiere, a flashlight walk through the swamp and a talent competition downtown.

🔦 **Swamp Flashlight Night—5–9 p.m.** 📍 Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, 10503 North Oak Hills Pkwy.

- Explore the swamp after dark with flashlight in hand—live animal encounters, self-guided night hikes and guided hikes available for an additional fee. 🎭 **Mid City's Got Talent—6 p.m.** 📍 Raising Cane's River Center, 275 S. River Road

- The second annual talent competition presented by Mid City Redevelopment Alliance showcases singers, dancers, musicians, aerial performers, magicians and more from across the Capital Region. Competitors vie for the $1,000 grand prize. Doors open at 5 p.m. Proceeds support Mid City revitalization.
